Compass served as Owner’s Project Manager for University of Massachusetts Lowell for the renovation/expansion of Coburn Hall. Coburn Hall is a 100-year old structure that was one of the first buildings on the University of Massachusetts Lowell Campus. The 50,000 square foot, 4-story, masonry, and timber-framed building had several historic details that were to be preserved. The renovation of the existing building included significant re-structuring and seismic reinforcement and the addition consisted of a steel frame structure clad in curtainwall, metal panels, and fiber cement panels.

The outcome was a new Coburn Hall designed to be an innovative center for research, exploration and interdisciplinary collaboration. The project included a comprehensive renovation of the existing 50,000 square foot building and a 15,300 square foot expansion which includes classrooms, offices, event and collaboration spaces as well as demo spaces for education and psychology students to work on presentation and communication strategies to expand understanding of learning and teaching methodologies.
